Today I drove to five different dealerships to see what is actually happening in the car market right now.

We stopped at a Toyota dealer, a Lexus dealer, a Kia dealer, a Ford dealer, and one of the busiest used car operations in the area. I wanted to compare new car traffic versus used car traffic and see if there really is a difference.

At Toyota, there was solid inventory, plenty of Tacomas and Tundras on the lot, and several active test drives happening. Customer parking was fairly full. Toyota seems to maintain steady traffic even when other brands struggle.

At Lexus, the customer lot was completely full and multiple people were walking the showroom and lot. Luxury still appears active, at least from a foot traffic perspective.

Kia was surprisingly busy. Multiple customers were test driving vehicles and walking the lot. Lower price points and long warranties continue to attract buyers, especially those financing or leasing.

Ford also showed activity with customers checking out F150s, Broncos, and other trucks. Even though some dealers have reported their slowest January in years, there were still people actively shopping.

Then we went to a large used car dealer that specializes in aggressively priced vehicles in the twenty to twenty five thousand dollar range. The difference was dramatic. The lot was packed. The showroom was full. Foot traffic was heavy. Used vehicles in that price range appear to be in serious demand.

This video also looks at inventory levels. Contrary to the narrative that dealers are drowning in unsold vehicles, most lots simply looked stocked the way they used to be before the shortages of 2022 and 2023. Having options is not necessarily a bad thing. It gives buyers leverage and choice.

We also talk about credit, financing, and how lending impacts prices. As long as financing remains accessible, both new and used vehicles will continue moving, even at elevated prices. But with tax season approaching, there may be added pressure on the used car market. If demand spikes, inventory could shrink quickly and prices could rise.

Used vehicle values have softened slightly in recent weeks, but that window may not stay open long. If you are shopping for a used vehicle, current stock levels may offer an opportunity before peak buying season hits.

The goal of this video is simple. Instead of relying on headlines or dealership claims, I wanted to physically see what is happening on the ground.
