Replication Controller ensures that a specified number of pod replicas are running at any one time. In other words, a Replication Controller makes sure that a pod or a homogeneous set of pods is always up and available.

Replication Controller is similar to a process supervisor, but instead of supervising individual processes on a single node, the Replication Controller supervises multiple pods across multiple nodes.

The pods are automatically maintained by a Replication Controller. It replaces failed or terminated pods. For example, your pods are re-created on a node after disruptive maintenance such as a kernel upgrade. Replication Controller is often abbreviated to "rc" in discussion, and as a shortcut in kubectl commands. It is a best practice to use the replication controller to manage the pod life cycle rather than creating a pod again and again.

Kubernetes replication controller can also be used to scale the number of pods, and to update or delete multiple pods with a single command. You can create a Replication Controller with an imperative command, or declaratively, from a file. We can delete any Replication Controller and all its pod by using the command kubectl delete.

Kubernetes is a popular open-source platform for container orchestration. It enables developers to easily build containerized applications and services. Kubernetes also scale, schedule and monitor those containers. Kubernetes automates operational tasks of container management and includes built-in commands for deploying applications, rolling out changes, scaling up and down, monitoring applications, and more. Kubernetes makes it easier to manage your containerized applications.
To build an application you need to build a bunch of containers and then use Kubernetes to manage those containers. Kubernetes is a system that manages containers i.e., containerized applications where a container could be explained as a lightweight virtual machine.
