Описание к видео Mental Health Care Hasn’t Always Been Inclusive—What LGBTQ+ Communities Still Face Today

Mental health care should be for everyone, but historically, LGBTQ+ individuals have faced exclusion, stigma, and even harm within the system. 🏳️‍🌈🧠 In this video, Dr. Dan Kessler explores the legacy of bias in mental health care and why building inclusive, affirming support is essential for healing and trust. From pathologizing identities to limited access to affirming providers, the journey hasn’t been easy—but change is happening. Let’s talk about how we can move toward a more inclusive future for LGBTQ+ mental health. 🌈💬

Dr. Daniel Kessler is a clinical psychologist specializing in insomnia, relationship issues, anxiety and sexual concerns. The goals of therapy are to gain understanding and make change. Veritas is about finding your truth, so you can be an agent of change. Dr. Kessler’s approach to these goals is involved, interactive and direct. Dr. Kessler has been practicing for 30 years, has training in marital counseling, completed extensive coursework in sex therapy, and is Board Certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (the treatment of sleep disorders with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). Dr. Kessler received his PsyD from Florida Institute of Technology and his internship at George Washington University Medical Center. Dr. Kessler is on the Board of Trustees at his progressive synagogue, and has been involved in multiple charitable organizations. He has also been politically active and was a 2022 candidate for Minnesota State Senate. Prior to founding Veritas with Dr. Gayle MacBride, Dr. Kessler worked 15 years in a primary care clinic, and has also worked in hospital, community mental health and private practice settings, has supervised and trained new clinicians, and taught at the university level.

Dr. Kessler is a PsyPact provider, member of APA, MPA, SBSM, CBT-I International Directory, holds a Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (DBSM), and is licensed in Minnesota, New York, and Vermont.
