Mau Administration
Mau district is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The headquarters of the district is located in Mau city. Mau district comes under Azamgarh division. The district shares its borders with Mau, Ghazipur, Ballia, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur and #Deoria districts. According to the 2011 census, Mau district had a population of 22,05,170. Mau district has a sex ratio of 978 females for every 1000 males.
History of Mau
Mau district is divided into 4 tehsils Maunath Bhanjan, Muhammadabad Gohna, Ghosi and Madhuban. The district was established on 19 November 1988. It was carved out of the Azamgarh district and made a new district. The area of the district is 1,713 km2. Late Kalpath Rai Ji, former MP, played a very important role in the creation of Mau district.

Agriculture is the main source of livelihood. Major industries include weaving of sarees. Mau and weaving art complement each other.
