Most churches teach you have an immortal soul. And they say your immortal soul will suffer eternal torment in hell unless you’re saved.

But Jesus warned:
■ “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28, KJV)

Jesus said the soul can be destroyed. So, was Jesus wrong?

Of course not. The churches are wrong on two counts.
1. Churches long ago adopted the pagan immortal soul doctrine. But in the Bible, “soul” only refers to a person —not to an immortal component.
2. Churches had also adopted hell to explain where the unsaved immortal soul will live for eternity.

“Hell” in Jesus’ warning above is a deliberate mis-translation of the Greek word γεέννῃ —the fiery dump outside Jerusalem. Jesus was saying the unsaved would surely be destroyed, like trash thrown into that dump.

Salvation is not about where you’ll spend eternity. Truth is, you’ll perish —dead forever— unless you receive the gift of eternal life.

Here it is in your Bible:
■ “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

■ “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23)

■ “When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever” (Psalms 92:7)

■ "For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be." (Psalm 37:10)
