Out of Nothing (cover) // eurorack ambient

Описание к видео Out of Nothing (cover) // eurorack ambient

This is a cover of the wonderful ambient work by O Yuki Conjugate, posted with kind permission from the band (see below for a link to the original). "Out of Nothing" is from the 1992 album Undercurrents (In Dark Water), an album I listened to so often through the 90s and beyond that it's essence is in my bones.

This cover came about very organically, after listening to the album recently, I tried recreating the opening 4-note sequence, with delay, and then worked on transposing it using CV. After achieving that, I decided to move ahead and try to recreate the entire song.

In the process, I simplified the tones, realizing that much of the beauty of the original is in its stillness and layering of relatively simple, pure sounds.

Perhaps the biggest challenge was to find an appropriate interpretation of the beautiful (and again, simple) vocal in the original song that sets the mood for the latter half. I ended up layering 3 oscillators with a touch vibrato supplied by Argos Bleak. I also used the B input on the Bleak to transpose that part. Just as important to me was that this part not be sequenced perfectly, but be played by hand to lend it a bit of a human touch.
