Although hallucinations and delusions are unusual in Alzheimer’s and Frontotemporal dementia, they are more common in Lewy body and Parkinson’s dementia. Hallucinations and delusions can be upsetting and frightening to people with dementia as well as their families.
Antipsychotic medications to control hallucinations and delusions can be very harmful to people with dementia. These drugs may not be necessary when the best dementia care practices are applied.
