While promoting his latest film Meiyazhagan in London, Arvind Swami speaks about his internal process as an actor, key learnings from the Mani Ratnam School of acting and 30 years of iconic films like Bombay.

Meiyazhagan (transl. Man of true beauty) is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by C. Prem Kumar. It is produced by Jyothika and Suriya under 2D Entertainment. Arunmozhi Varman (Swami) along with his family had left his hometown in Thanjavur’s Needamangalam after losing their house due to certain misfortune. With a heavy heart, young Arunmozhi, his father and others leave. Years go by soon and Arunmozhi returns to his native to attend a wedding. It becomes a bitter-sweet journey of homecoming for Arunmozhi, as he meets a relative (Karthi), who sports an infectious and childlike smile, and brims with innocence, as the former struggles to recollect who he is.

Arvind Swami is an Indian actor, film director and entrepreneur known for his work in Tamil cinema and a few Hindi cinema, Telugu cinema and Malayalam cinema. He was introduced as an actor by Mani Ratnam with the blockbuster film Thalapathi (1991) and subsequently starred in successful films such as Roja (1992), Bombay (1995), Minsara Kanavu (1997), Thani Oruvan (2015) and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018). He made his debut as a director in the Netflix anthology series Navarasa (2021) in which his segment was named Rowthiram (Raudra - Anger). He is a recipient of three Filmfare Award South, one Tamil Nadu State Film Award and two SIIMA Awards.

Swami also starred in other regional film industries, including Telugu and Malayalam films where he has done films such as Mounam (1995), Daddy (1992) and Devaraagam (1996). He has also appeared in Hindi, making his debut appearance as a lead actor in Saat Rang Ke Sapne (1998). He briefly worked as a television presenter as the host of the third season of Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi (2012–2016) on Star Vijay.
