Bharata Natyam, originating 2000 years ago within the temples of South India, is one of many classical dance traditions of India. The Hindu God Shiva – ascetic, cosmic dancer, destroyer of evil – is considered the God of this dance in his form as Nataraja. “Bho Shambho,” a contemporary ode to Shiva, sings His praise as the Omniscient, Omnipresent, Eternal, and Blissful. The five Shivas represent the five elements – Water, Fire, Wind, Earth, and Space—that define our very existence.
