STORYLINE:

Nine US soldiers with battlefield injuries from the war in Iraq arrived on Tuesday for treatment at a military hospital in western Germany, raising to 96 the number of war-wounded brought to the base so far.

The soldiers arrived at the Ramstein Air Base aboard a C-141 transport plane together with 15 more who were suffering from non-combat-related injuries, said Lieutenant Richard Komurek, a spokesman for US Air Force Europe.

He gave no details on the identity of the wounded, the soldiers' units or how and where they were wounded. All were taken to the nearby Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre.

Ahead of Tuesday's arrival, a total of 87 people with combat-related injuries from the war had been brought to Landstuhl - 34 from the Army, two from the Navy, 49 Marines, one from the Air Force and one US civilian.
