With a global population expected to hit nearly 10 billion by 2050 and increasing per-capita protein demand, all forecasts by agricultural economists indicate that meat consumption will rise inexorably, between 70-200% by 2050. In this talk, Bruce Friedrich explained how our current industrial meat production system threatens our long-term future, posing serious jeopardy to humanity and non-human animals across diverse areas, including climate change, biodiversity loss, food security, public health, antibiotic resistance, pandemic risk, and more. Alternative proteins offer the chance to reduce or mitigate these and other catastrophic and existential risks.
