After months of testing with Insiders, Microsoft has finally released the latest feature update for Windows 10. Known variously as Windows 10 October 2020 Update and Windows 10 20H2, the update brings some small but exciting changes to Microsoft's famous operating system.

As is usually the case, Microsoft is performing a staggered rollout which means most people checking Windows Update won't see the update right now. But if you want to get up to date right now, you can do an in-place upgrade or a clean installation with a 20H2 ISO. It is recommended to do a temporary full backup of your data before proceeding.

IMPROTANT NOTE: There's always a chance of something going wrong during and after the upgrade, which means that you should consider creating a temporary backup before proceeding. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Bare in mind that Microsoft isn't going to automatically install it on your PC. If you can't wait, you can always force the upgrade in at least three ways using Windows Update, Media Creation Tool, or Update Assistant.

In this Windows 10 video tutorial, I will show you the steps to download and install the October 2020 Update (version 20H2) on your PC.

DOWNLOAD THE MEDIA CREATION TOOL:
Download Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool (which downloads Windows 10) from Microsoft's website.

Once downloaded, double-click the tool’s exe file. Tick "Create installation media for another PC", then "Next".

CREATE A WINDOWS 10 INSTALLATION MEDIA
You'll be asked whether you want to create a USB flash drive (you’ll need to insert one with 8GB or more free space) or an ISO file, which you can turn into an installation DVD. Choose the ISO file option and click "Next".

Choose the location where you want to download the ISO file and click "Next". You’ll then need to wait while the Windows 10 update downloads, which can take a fair while, depending on your internet connection.

BEGIN THE UPGRADE PROCESS
When finished, navigate to the location of your ISO file and double-click "setup.exe" to begin the Windows 10 upgrade process. Follow all the on-screen prompts until you see a message saying "Installing Windows 10".

As soon as your computer restarts, follow the remaining steps to complete the installation.

After you complete the steps, the Media Creation Tool will apply version 20H2 on your computer, keeping your files, apps, and most settings.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE WINDOWS 10 OCTOBER 2020 UPDATE WITH UPDATE ASSISTANT
If you know that the system is compatible with the new version, but there are problems with Windows Update detecting and downloading the new files, then you can use the Update Assistant tool to install the Windows 10 October 2020 Update.

To install Windows 10 version 20H2 with the Update Assistant, use these steps:
1. Open this Microsoft support website: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Link...
2. Click the Update now button.
3. Save the file to your device.
4. Double-click the Windows10Upgradexxxx file to launch the tool.
5. Click the Update Now button.
6. Click the Next button.

Once you complete these steps, the Update Assistant tool will download the new files, and it'll install the October 2020 Update similar to the Windows Update process preserving your files, apps, and most of the settings. The time of completion will depend on your internet connection and device hardware.

If you're having trouble upgrading to the new version using any of these methods, you may want to consider using the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable media to perform a clean install of Windows 10 with the latest update.
