Everybody knows that here in northern California we have access to some of the greatest wines in all of the world. Few people know that we have so many amazing wineries, right here in the Santa Cruz appellation. Hi, I’m Dawn Thomas with movetothebeach.com, and here is the list of our favorite wineries in the Santa Cruz area.

Soquel Vineyards
Nestled in the hills above Soquel, you’ll find the fine boutique winery, Soquel Vineyards. With the handmade 18th century Italian roof tiles, a front door made of an old 12,000 gallon redwood tank, great views and great wines, this place makes for an enchanting place to enjoy delicious wines.

Windy Oaks
Windy Oaks is located way up a winding country road, and the trip is absolutely worth it. Get yourself a bottle at the tasting room, and head up to the ridge for a picnic with a beautiful view of Monterey Bay. Call ahead before making the trek as they host closed private events.

Sones Cellars
Known for their delicious Petit Sirah and Zinfandel, Sones Cellars is a small family winery, that prides itself on fine quality, small batch wine-making. They are also known for their refillable petit sirah-zinfandel blend, named Hedgehog Red, which was created with conservation in mind, as the bottles are reusable. The tasting room is cozy and inviting, and the folks working there, often the owners Michael and Louis, are super friendly and always ready to chat about their wines as well as their love of the Santa Cruz area.

MJA Vineyards
MJA Vineyards is a local favorite. Delicious wines without pretense and a relaxed atmosphere that combine to stoke the California spirit. The owner, Marin, was a coffee plantation owner in Hawaii, before starting what would become MJA in 2008.

Storrs Winery
The tasting room of Storrs Winery is located right in Santa Cruz, has a cool urban feel to it, which is perfect for when you don’t have time to drive all the way out to the country, and their wines are delicious. They’ve been at it since 1988, and it’s apparent when you taste their wines that they really know what they’re doing.

I’m Dawn Thomas with movetothebeach.com, cheers, and thanks for watching.
