Enuff Z'Nuff - Takin' A Ride

I believe we were at rehearsal studio, and not much ever got done at rehearsals except Monkey Business. So everything set up, and I'm grooving out on whatever I was on at the time, waiting for the guys to come in from sitting around smoking and talking etc, and I had just gotten a new Rickenbacker from my endorser, and I was checking it out, and I stumbled onto the riff.

I was immediately like wow, this is a cool ass riff. The guys came in heard me playing it, and started chiming in. As soon as Vik gave it that off time beat it started coming alive.

When Derek started feeding back all over it, I just started hearing all these ethereal vocals, and harmonies and the lyrics felt pretty irrelevant. It was clear to me this was going to be a Vibe song because it was very different from most of our s*** and that was a good thing in my eyes, I love to experiment.

Chip and Vic started experimenting with the runs from one part into another, like the first one where the band kicks in, and I was like this is a trip. We were really good at doing this together and never did it anywhere near enough. I mean we've written songs on stage, where we we just look at each other and laugh.

So within a half hour to 45 minutes this tune came to life, the words were just vowels and syllables that sounded right. I think everybody just created Magic on that one. It lent itself to Derek style of playing, and was an example of what the band was capable of, but like I said that just didn't happen enough.

I always loved it and liked starting the show with it, but we never really worked out a show with the production in the music and a theme so it didn't make much sense.
