Our first session was moderated by Sarah Corley, and it featured two guests, Anatol Monid who is the Senior Director, Programs at Toronto Centre, and Nick Cook who is the Head of Global Strategy & Partnerships at the Alliance for Innovative Regulation (AIR).

Green Finance Implications on Financial regulation and supervision
Anatol started us off with an overview of green finance, highlighting the need for good supervision and regulation around greening. In his opening remarks, he also brought about the impact that green finance is trying to overcome- which is addressing the issue of millions of people being pushed into extreme poverty as a result of climate change.

Nick on the other hand gave us an overview of net-zero carbon emissions, whose synonyms include carbon neutrality and climate neutrality, going on to explain what net-zero means for central banks. He also walked us through some practical steps that central banks can take to ensure that in their operations, they are minimizing their carbon footprint and contributing to a net zero economy.
