Buffet lamps are sometimes called candlestick lamps, due to their being shaped similarly to a candlestick, or console lamps. Originally designed for use on buffet tables or side boards in the dining room, new trends can find buffet table lamps in other room and spaces as well.

The hallmark of a buffet table lamp is its height. They are tall, averaging 30" to 36" high, towering over standard table lamps. While many buffet table lamps trends towards more traditional styles, featuring wood or bronze finishes, contemporary styles are also popular, featuring modern materials like glass and metal finishes.

When placed in a dining room, their tall height adds additional lighting to the space, pairing well with a chandelier over the dining table. The thin profile and compact bases leave plenty of space on your buffet tabletop. Place the buffet tables lamps so that seated guests at your table will not be able to see the bare bulb of the lamp.

Buffet table lamps can also be used on hallway tables, or on a sofa console table in a living room. In a living room setting, the height of the lamps adds extra lighting to the space, and can even be used as a reading lamp when placed behind your sofa. Aim to keep the combined height of the lamp and console table around 60" to avoid bulb glare.
