Motors travelling more than 30,000rpm didn't exist before Dyson came along. But traditional clunky, slow motors were affecting Dyson's ability to experiment with the vacuum format. So we made one.
The first motor failed, but we continued to pioneer. Just like we did with the washing machine that was too expensive to make and the car that was too risky commercially to continue. Batteries too – we've been making solid-state batteries for over 10 years but we're not selling them yet.
We pioneer, so it takes time to get things right, and sometimes it doesn't go anywhere, but we always learn something.
