The 20-year study on the impact of cleaning products on lung health, conducted by researchers from the University of Bergen in Norway investigated the long-term effects of using cleaning products on respiratory health, particularly focusing on women.

The study included over 6,000 participants, with a significant focus on women, both professional cleaners and those who cleaned at home. They followed them for 20 years and used lung function tests (FEV1 and FVC) and respiratory health questionnaires to assess the impact.

Key findings:
Lung Function Decline: Women who regularly used cleaning products experienced a more significant decline in lung function over 20 years compared to those who did not.
Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1) decreased faster in women using cleaning products, comparable to smoking 20 cigarettes per day.
Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) also showed a more rapid decline in women using these products.
Increased Risk of Asthma: Women working as professional cleaners or those who cleaned regularly at home had a higher prevalence of asthma.
Potential Causes: The study suggested that the inhalation of small particles from cleaning agents could cause chronic respiratory problems, with irritants and possible damage to airways similar to that caused by other harmful substances.

The study highlighted the potential long-term risks associated with regular use of cleaning products, particularly for women. It emphasized the need for awareness about these risks and suggested that using fewer chemicals and opting for safer cleaning methods could mitigate these health impacts. This research has contributed to increasing awareness and changing practices regarding the use of cleaning agents, especially in professional environments.

I feel safe using them around our kids, pets, and even rinsing it on the lawn. They outperform the toxic cleaners from big box store and even save us money!
