The following are steps Mold Busters follows in a typical basement mold remediation project:
1. Identify the moisture source in the basement. The source could be a leak in the ceiling, walls or pipes, high relative humidity or lack of proper ventilation. Once the cause of the water accumulation is identified, it should be fixed immediately.

2. Remove all mold-contaminated and water-damaged materials that serve as a breeding ground for mold. This includes wooden furniture, carpets, curtains and cardboard boxes.

3. Clean off old mold that’s been growing on walls and other structural elements of the property. This should never be done without proper safety equipment such as gloves and masks. The mold should be disposed of as soon as possible.

4. Use a mixture of chlorine bleach, water and a detergent to clean and disinfect all affected surfaces. Once again, this should never be done without a brush, gloves, and mask.

5. Rinse all surfaces with water. If required, repeat the procedure until the surfaces are completely rid of all mold.

6. Dry out the area with a rag or a fan. The area should be kept clean and well ventilated so that moisture does not accumulate in the basement.

Remember that it’s not mold until it’s tested. To prevent mold from developing, don’t wait for another second to have your basement inspected and tested. In the case that mold has already developed in the basement, don’t wait to have it removed by the professionals.
