For my second feature of DS Sunday this week, I have an album of excellent lo-fi, chilling mildewed dark ambient.

Regular followers of the channel may recall an album of medieval folk-influenced raw black metal by Hueste Negra from earlier this year – Black Necromancer's Path is the pure atmospheric project from the same artist, and succeeds in achieving the same quality of tangible audio dirt, carried with an emphatic presence that commands the speakers – as slight as it often is, as the whisps of smoky ambience descend through pitch black murk.

The album is released in cassette format by Black Gangrene Productions, and CD by the Serbian label, Grim Reaper Records – digital copies from the artist bandcamp directly.

Dungeon Synth Sunday Banner image: Jean Honoré Fragonard - A Gathering at Wood's Edge

DS Sunday intro banners for August feature the artwork of Jean Honoré Fragonard (1732–1806); a prolific and inventive French painter, draftsman, and printmaker with an exuberant and fluid manner, elaborating Rococo idioms favoring the playful, the erotic, and the joys of domesticity. In addition to rich Romantic oil-based panel portraits, and overgrown gardens full of mythological statuary, he also displayed a mastery of the rustic red chalk medium, depicting endearing visions of nature as welcoming and wondrous.
