Hi Makers,

Thanks for joining me for this skirt tutorial. I hope you enjoy the video and find it useful.
As mentioned in the video, below you will find some advice and tips for measuring your fabric properly etc:
Fabric width:
You will need to measure your waist, multiply it by 2 and minus 20cms. This will give you the correct 'width' to cut your fabric.
E.g. If your waist measurement is 80cms (multiply it by 2) which will be 160cms and then minus 20cms which will be 140cms. This measurement includes the seam allowance so don't add anymore for this.
Fabric Length:
For your desired length, measure from your waist to where you want the hem to be, you will add another 6cms to this measurement for the waistband and hem. You can decide whichever length you want your skirt to be ... maxi, midi, mini etc.
**Before sewing the bottom hem of the skirt - it's a good idea to try on the skirt just to be sure that you have the correct length.
Elastic waistband:
The length of elastic should be approximately your waist measurement minus 5cms as you want it to stretch a little to fit you well. Test the measurement on your waist before you cut to ensure it feels comfortable - you can adjust if necessary.

Other basic tips/advice for beginners:
If you are using a patterned fabric - make sure the pattern is facing the correct way up when you start to construct the skirt!
You can obviously choose the type of fabric you use for this skirt, in this tutorial I'm using a cotton/polyester mix as I intend to wear this skirt in spring/summer - you could use a heavier fabric if you wish. Also you may want to check that the fabric you use is not see through!
Double check every measurement when starting a project (usually the actual sewing is the straight forward part) - the correct measurements are extremely important to ensure you get the end product you desire. I still double check my measurements to ensure I have them correct.

Disclaimer: This is a basic elasticated waist skirt pattern, there are plenty of others out there which may suit your needs/wants more, there are also plenty of other techniques/methods of working which I also use, however, this is a perfect pattern for a beginner sewist or anyone who wants a quick, basic pattern for a skirt.
