Arlo McKinley Covers “Home Sweet Home” by Mötley Crüe | CONTRARY WESTERN

Arlo McKinley was the final artist John Prine signed to his Nashville-based label Oh Boy Records before Prine passed away in 2020.

Here, the Cincinnati native, Arlo McKinley, sits down with Contrary Western in East Nashville to talk about covering songs by artists like Post Malone, Rihanna, and Harry Styles, and to share a stripped-down rendition of “Home Sweet Home” by Mötley Crüe.

Though Arlo has covered songs like “If I Could Only Fly” by Blaze Foley, he tries to break free from the mold of Americana and country music to find gold in the unexpected. “I’m a fan of Harry Styles,” Arlo says, citing the power of stripping a song down to its fundamental truth and form on a single instrument—to that starting place before writing teams and producers get their hands on a track.
