Unveiling Faversham's Magna Carta: a cornerstone of English history

Faversham in Kent owns a medieval version of the famous Magna Carta, made in the 14th century, a celebrated document of English history. Faversham's Magna Carta is one of the best-preserved.
It can be seen in a permanent exhibition in Faversham, alongside other royal charters, part of the town's archives (Faversham Town Council)

"The original Magna Carta, the 1215 Magna Carta, has been taken up around the world, particularly in America, for example, where it's considered very, very important as a cornerstone of ideas about the limits to the monarch's authority and almost the cornerstone of the initiation of ideas, the earliest ideas about democracy.
The fact that, in this country, we don't have a written constitution, actually, the Magna Carta itself constitutes perhaps the nearest that we have come to that, setting down of ideas
about the fundamental rights of individuals."
