Why I was too afraid to speak French. In this video, I tell you all about why I didn’t speak French till I was 20 (even though I started learning it at 12!).

Spoiler alert: my story with French is turbulent (and at times, traumatizing).

If you look at my videos now (especially the French-speaking ones on TikTok and Insta), it’s clear that I’m confident in French. Yeah, I still make a ton of errors, but they don’t deter me from speaking the language. And I’m definitely not afraid to whip out my French skills (mistakes and all) in my everyday interactions in Paris.

But it wasn’t always like this. In fact, I used to have no confidence speaking French, and at university, I almost quit French several times.

I used to be terrified to speak French with my classmates, and I became convinced that I was never supposed to learn French in the first place. Luckily, there IS a turning point in my story (bien sûr), and I explain it all in this video (which is almost completely in French!).

So yeah, I didn’t speak French until I was 20, partly because of my education, and mostly because of my lack of confidence. And maybe you’re struggling right now (at whatever age!) to speak French with confidence.
