How to replace a cracked Nexus 7 screen and digitizer

How to replace a broken or cracked screen and digitizer on the Asus Nexus 7 first gen. The LCD and digitizer are glued together on the nexus 7. This makes the repair more expensive because even if your LCD is still fully functional you will have to replace both. Don't be fooled into buying just the digitizer as it is almost imposable to separate them without specialised tools.
The nexus 7 in this video is also a good example of why it is better (and cheaper) to have a go at the repair yourself as it was returned with screws missing.
