Pandalam

Pandalam is a municipality in Adoor Thaluk of Pathanamthitta district. An important town in central Kerala, Pandalam situated on the banks of Achankovil river. It is believed that Lord Ayyappan, the deity of Sabarimala, is the adopted son of Pandalam King. Sabarimala is one of the biggest pilgrim centers in India. During Sabarimala pilgrimage devotees visit Veliyakoikkal temple, the family temple of Pandalam Palace. Three days before makaravilakku festival, Thiruvabharanam, the sacred ornaments, are taken in a procession from Pandalam to Sabarimala.Pandalam palace is near the temple.

A pedestrian suspension bridge (Pandalam Thookkupalam) is also constructed to link Pandalam Ayyappa Temple and Pandalam Palace to Kaipuzha Sreekrishna Temple and Kaipuzha Palace.

Mavelikara, Chengannur, Pathanamthitta and Adoor are major neighboring towns of Pandalam. Thumpamon, Pandalam Thekkekara, Kulanada, Nooranad, Padanilam, Venmony and neighboring Villages/Panchayat.

"പട പേടിച്ചു പന്തളത്തു ചെന്നപ്പോൾ പന്തം കൊളുത്തി പട" (pada pedichu pandalathu chennappol pantham koluthi pada) എന്ന് മലയാളത്തിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഒരു പഴം ചൊല്ലുണ്ട്.
