The Rabbit Haven

It was exactly 1 week ago today that Fawna gave birth to her kits at 10:42 PM PST. She and her kits (1st) were in the playroom. She gathered her kits and broke the news they were going have new brothers and sisters. She said her goodbyes and made sure that her kits were save. They are now with their God Mother Tesha.

Fawna was then put into her night home. She and her kits are in a smaller area to protect her kits. The area allows a safe place for her to nurse and care for her kits. Fawna’s Foster Mom was the first to detect that she might deliver. Fawna had her kits outside of the shelter and with their father prior to being rescued from the shelter.

Fawna started to build her nest. We were aware that today was the 28th Day and was prepared for her 2nd family. We quickly setup the home for her first kits and made her feel safe for her 2nd family. The process started at 5:03 PM PST. Fawna was put on “Baby Watch”.

The first step is for her to create her “nesting box” with hay or other material. She would then start to pull fur to insulate her kits. Once she delivers she would clean her kits and start to nurse her kits.

We were watching her for the next 6 hours as she was preparing for kits (babies). We had placed a nesting box for her but she found another place.

She gave birth to 5 very healthy kits. She had lost several of kits from her first litter due to a poor diet and housing.
Note there is a little blood shown at the end. This is a real life kit birth.
