This is a June 1, 1942 radio promotion for the film version of Rogers and Hart's musical comedy I Married an Angel which was released on July 9, 1942. Starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, it was to be their last film together. Directed by Woody Van Dyke with a screen play by Anita Loos, it was heavily censored and rewritten resulting in cuts and chops evident even in the sound clips provided by the studio for broadcast here. When announcing that he's married an angel in once of the scenes, Eddy's character says a little too emphatically "Let 'em hear me, I WANT them to hear me" - this wasn't included in the film. Nearing the end of their contracts at MGM, many feel both actors are more open and natural in showing their true feelings for each other. As they were filming the final scenes in December, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked plunging the US into war. Light entertainments like this were out of favor and the film was not well received. However, in later years, it's become a fan favorite because of how Van Dyke deftly reveals the truth of their actual relationship. As Joanne Woodward once commented on this movie, "what you see is not acting, it's being, they're being"
