From Hagerty:
In 1970, Plymouth designers were tasked with dressing up the staid Plymouth Valiant to compete with compacts like the Ford Maverick, AMC Hornet, and Chevrolet Nova. The resulting Plymouth Duster shared its chassis, floor pan, and front-end styling with the Valiant, but with completely new body panels aft of the cowl, including a steeply raked windshield and two-door fastback roofline. The Duster was available with a choice of two Slant Sixes with 198 and 225 cu-in displacements, and two V8s with 318 or 340 cu-in. Power ranged from 125 horsepower in the small Slant Six to 275 horsepower in the high-performance Duster 340. The Duster became a surprise success story for 1970.

In 1972, Plymouth introduced a Gold Duster option package. It was a dressed-up version including the larger Slant Six or a 318 V8, with added trim, dual horns, and a cigar lighter. The package also included a new "canopy" vinyl roof covering that covered only the forward portion of the top and was available in two colors.

Two owners loved the combination of frugality and flash the Gold Duster offered so much, they have kept this one from new, the second owner since 1994.

Ownership History

The consignor has owned this 1972 Plymouth Gold Duster since 1994 when she and her husband purchased it from the original owner who moved it from Arizona. It has always been garage-kept and completely rust-free. The consignor’s late husband coated the undercarriage with POR15, further preventing corrosion.
