ABOUT THIS CONCERT

Born and raised in the traditional flamenco hotbed of Cádiz, Spanish pianist Chano Domínguez has found a singular niche as a pianist in the language of flamenco, viewed through the lens of the post-bop tradition. He has released over 20 albums and collaborated with Paquito D’Rivera Wynton Marsalis, and Paco de Lucía, among others.
In tribute to the enduring influence of Miles Davis, Domínguez brought his fresh arrangements of “So What,” “All Blues,” and “Freddie the Freeloader” along with original compositions to this performance in May of 2018 during our Miles Davis tribute week, accompanied by a fine band including bassist Alexis Cuadrado, drummer Henry Cole, flamenco singer Blas Córdoba and dancer Daniel Navarro.
Steeped in the soul-searching Iberian concept of duende, these reconceived versions of Davis classics were documented on Domínguez’s GRAMMY-nominated 2012 Blue Note release Flamenco Sketches.
