With the highest scores in test cricket AND first class cricket, Brian Charles Lara is considered one of the greatest batters of all time. Here are three things that made him so much fun to watch.

First up is, of course, his flamboyant, high backlift. While most batters do lift the bat up quite high before hitting a ball, Brian’s was especially high. He would use this high backlift even when playing defensive shots, and his fast hands would allow the bat to come down quickly every time. This backlift, along with his fast hands, allowed him to play flashy shots where the bat swung large distances very quickly.

Secondly, Brian’s trigger movements made him look explosive and athletic. Before playing the ball, he would crucially crouch down into a semi-squat. This allowed him to store energy in his leg muscles and transfer it into his shot as he came back up again.

Finally, Brian had an ultra-attacking mindset. He was especially ruthless against spinners, always looking to smash them out of the attack when they came on. He had huge amounts of success against great bowlers like Muralitharan and Warne. Brian batted like he was not afraid of getting out by taking the initiative to the bowlers, and he is undoubtedly a great of the game.
