Want to grow maximum food in a small space? Want to be more self-reliant in tasty organic food and have a beautiful garden? Layering your growing space is the answer.

Pippa Chapman reveals how she grows food for her family in a small courtyard. She uses polycultures to create groups of plants that are beautiful but also edible, uses the vertical to maximise space and create shade, and has perennial plants for continuous harvests and less input.

Simon Griffiths tells the story of the local food resurgence in the Dyfi valley in Wales, where small-scale farmers, market gardeners and artisans have fed the community throughout Covid-19. He also visits Tammi Dallaston and her abundant edible garden, who shares her tips for self-reliance. (Sorry about the sound levels!)

Wade Muggleton (Permaculture Magazine regular) explains how to plant and maintain healthy trees. Visit his thriving plot and see how his tips have worked both in his orchard and small woodland.

All three people are featured in PM105, where they share more of their practical knowledge. Find out more here: https://www.permaculture.co.uk/issue/...
