Join us for a mixed surface gravel ride on some of the publicly accessible gravel trails and forest roads at Bernheim Forest, Kentucky’s largest private forest, located just 30 minutes from downtown Louisville.

NOTE: After the publication of this video, I received the following additional guidance from the Natural Areas Manager: "To clarify the forestry road policy- all forestry roads accessible to the public must be accessed from within Bernheim Forest. Aside from the Hike Bike Trail, you must enter Bernheim at the front gate. This ensures visitor safety and keeps staff informed on visitor numbers." Consequently, I have revised the Ride With GPS routes to comply with this policy as our ride did not.

FROM THE NATURAL AREAS MANAGER AT BERNHEIM:

"At over 16,000 acres of protected land, and with 40 miles of trails, Bernheim has ample opportunities to connect with nature. The forestry roads that are accessible from Paul’s Point Circle are open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. These include Ashlock Hollow Road, Old Headquarters Road, Wilson Creek Fire Road, and Yoe Road. Any other forestry roads that connect to these roads are not accessible to the public, and are protected for research and wildlife habitat purposes.

Although some of these roads are accessible, I highly encourage that riders, particularly new ones, consider paved or other trail alternatives throughout the natural areas and arboretum. Forestry roads often have downed trees, large ruts, and other dangerous conditions for bicycles. Routes with gravel sections that are great for biking include the Bike Hike Trail, the Forest Giants Trail, or the Nursery Loop."
