La sagra di Giarabub (in some lyrics Saga di Giarabub) is an Italian war song.
Written in 1941 by Alberto Simeoni and Ferrante Alvaro De Torres, and set to music by Mario Ruccione, it was composed after the battle of Giarabub, during which, from December 1940 to March 1941, in a Libyan oasis on the border with Egypt , isolated Italian troops under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Salvatore Castagna, who was wounded in the fight, offered a strenuous resistance to the English besiegers, up to the capitulation due to the exhaustion of provisions and ammunition.
Thanks to EIAR, the song became very popular in those years, with its seven refrains all starting with the word, "Colonel". In fact, the singing soldier turns to it, always with a different request, to demonstrate his obstinacy in defending the Italian position at any cost.
