Termites can cause devastating damage to your home, and they can be difficult to get rid of. So preventing an infestation is the best course of action.

Termites need wood AND moisture to survive. So first, remove as much moisture from around your property as possible.

Next, keep vegetation back from the house. Do your best to keep mulch away from your home’s foundation and trim back any overgrown ground cover. Also do not let the soil level around your home cover the foundation.

Pick up any wood debris in your lawn like disposed lumber, fallen branches or sticks, or firewood. If you have a tree stump in the lawn, remove it.

Limit wood to soil contact by making sure that any wooden structures are not resting directly on the ground - put them on blocks, if possible. Repair or replace your wooden fence if it has taken in too much moisture and rot.

Also, use a combination of pesticides and a termite detection system.
