On 18 August 2025 I addressed the Sydney Institute on solving Australia’s red tape emergency.

Australians are ambitious. We want to get ahead, build things, create jobs, and leave our children a better future. But prosperity is under threat. Economic growth is flatlining. Productivity is collapsing.

Hardworking Australians are facing a double whammy. Working longer, earning less, and sinking in a cost and regulatory quagmire. The longstanding dream of owning a home is more and more out of reach.

The Albanese Government has introduced 5,034 regulations and 400 new laws. Red tape has crushed entrepreneurship, innovation, and housing supply. Productivity is down more than 5%. The cost of compliance has reached $4.8 billion.

Labor has failed on housing. Under the Coalition, Australia was building almost 200,000 homes a year. Under Labor, this has plunged to barely 170,000. The Housing Australia Future Fund built zero houses.

The Coalition will cut red tape, boost enterprise, and create opportunity. We believe in markets, in business, in home ownership. Deregulation is essential for investment, housing, and jobs.
