It’s completely normal for babies to get darker as they grow. When a baby is first born, the skin is a dark red to purple color. As the baby starts to breathe air, the color changes to red. This redness usually fades within the first day.

After birth, the baby’s skin might look fair for a few days, but then the skin tone can gradually become darker. This is because of melanin production — and it’s absolutely normal.

As melanin increases, it gives the baby’s skin a darker tone and offers natural protection from the sun’s ultraviolet rays —
protection that wasn’t needed inside the womb.

A baby's permanent skin tone generally settles by around 6 months of age.

So, cherish every moment — they grow up so quickly!
As a mother, I was so deeply in love with my baby that I didn’t even notice the changes. But people around me pointed them out.
