Building Solar Powered Rain Barrel Pump with Giraffe Tools

Описание к видео Building Solar Powered Rain Barrel Pump with Giraffe Tools

Hi Everyone! I have been loving my rain barrel this summer, but lugging a watering can to water my plants was very time consuming. I finally added a pump and a hose to it, so now watering is a breeze! This is a 12v solar powered system as well, so I’m able to water my plants is completely off the grid.

Battery charge time math:

Determine the battery capacity in watt hours (Wh):
Battery Capacity (Wh) = Voltage (V) × Capacity (Ah)
For my battery we get 12 V × 7 Ah = 84 Wh

Estimate the charging time:
To find the charging time, we divide the energy needed by the power output of the solar panel (I have a 20W Panel)
Charging Time (hours) = 84 Wh 20 W
Charging Time = 4.2 hours

This assumes that the system is 100% efficient. In reality, the panel won’t always be generating a perfect 20W. But I get much more than 4 hours of full sun a day, so I can still charge my battery fully in a day.
