The ACS880 series Variable Frequency Drive has several different kinds of Auto-Tuning functions to tune itself to the best possible specifications for its current motor application. The ACS880 performs these functions with what ABB calls “ID Run.”
ID Run has seven different tests it can perform on your motor. However, not all of these tests are required to tune your drive to your motor – usually only one test is required, depending on your application.
Once you have selected the motor type at parameter 99.03, the motor control mode at parameter 99.04, and motor nameplate data is loaded at parameters 99.06 to 99.10, the drive is almost ready to start ID Run. To run the test, enter “1” for Normal ID Run at parameter 99.13. Normal ID Run takes about 90 seconds to complete and then the drive is tuned to that exact motor.
