2.3 billion people globally will need care as of 2030. A strong, sustainable, gender-equal care economy can provide an important social and economic protections against future threats and crises, as well as playing a central role in today’s societal and economic well-being. Why does the care ecosystem continue to be drastically undervalued, despite its direct and indirect contributions to the global economy? Who bears the greatest responsibility for the care economy and what are the long-term impacts of an uneven distribution of work? How can the care economy be fully part of a just transition? What are the benefits of investing in the care economy? What solutions are being brought forward to even the playing field and what is the role of public and private stakeholders?

Discussion during the 30th Conference of Montreal, featuring Ron Nirenberg, Mayor of
San Antonio (TX) ; Erin Tansey, Director, Sustainable Inclusive Economies, IDRC ; Ana B. Moreno, Technical Secretary, Global Alliance for Care ; Béatrice Vaugrante, Executive Director, Oxfam-Quebec ;
