Treasurer Jim Chalmers says former Australian prime minister Paul Keating is “wrong” about Penny Wong.

Mr Keating accused the Foreign Minister of being a "mindless" supporter of the United States.

“I’m not surprised she’s (Penny Wong) put together such a long-standing record of excellence as a minister,” Mr Chalmers told Sky News Australia.

“Paul Keating is a friend of mine and I value that friendship, but I don’t agree with him all of the time … he’s not right 100 per cent of the time.

“He’s wrong about Penny Wong and his wrong about Mike Burgess.

“They are two absolutely outstanding people, and they are doing absolutely outstanding work.”
