Quake 1 RTX 4090: Scourge of Armagon E1

Rarely an expansion pack or DLC is better than the core game, but Scourge of Armagon is an exception. SoA has everything the Quake 1 single-player campaign lacked: a story that does make sense, solid level progression (rather than a random collection of maps), and even the end boss fight. It is also significantly more challenging: Nightmare difficulty is no longer "walking in a park".

This is the Episode 1: Fortress of the Dead. Unlike the core game, the entire episode is played on Earth. Ranger must make his way through a military base to reach the Slipgate that will return him to the realm of Quake.
