The African STARS Fellowship is developing the next generation of scientific leaders across the continent. In this video, we offer a glimpse into how the fellowship equips young Africans with advanced scientific skills, leadership training, financial management, entrepreneurship, communication, and a strong network of support. Together, these elements strengthen Africa’s capacity in genomics, data science, public health, and health innovation, while ensuring inclusive access and representation.

The programme features four flagship tracks:
• MBA in Healthcare Leadership – Stellenbosch University Business School
• MSc in Bioinformatics of Infectious Diseases – Stellenbosch University
• Advanced and Translational Training (ATT) Programme – CERI, SU and CARE, IPD
• Young Professionals Programme (YPP) – CERI, SU and CARE, IPD

The fellowship is more than training; it is a movement. A platform empowering young Africans to shape the continent’s scientific narrative through collaboration, creativity, and purpose.

The African STARS Fellowship Programme is delivered by the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and CARE at the Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD), Senegal, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
