What happens when light passes through more than two mediums in quick succession? The experimental setup shows a layer of water floating over a layer of glycerine - both are clear liquids but glycerine is denser so it sinks to the bottom while water floats over it. A glass rod dipped into the glass appears to bend twice, at each of the boundaries - first at the air-water boundary and then again at the water-glycerine boundary. This shows that light can refract twice in quick succession. The twinkling of stars is a result of light passes though air layers of different densities in the atmosphere and getting refracted at multiple boundaries.
