Exploring A Forgotten Treasure: AMPEX AG 20 Reel-To-Reel

There is very little information available on the extremely rare Ampex AG 20 reel to reel recorder. What is known is that it was the foray of the English division of Ampex into the territory of the hugely succesful Swiss Nagra recorders. The Nagra 3 had taken the film and TV world by storm and had very little competition in the market of professional location sound. Ampex set out to create a machine of similar quality, and produced a bunch protopypes But development costs were too high in the end, and the remaining examples were handed on to staff members.
