Here is a short video I made years ago on my way up North to visit family. As I was traveling through the Carolina's, I saw signs along the road still advertising "Heritage, USA" which had recently closed. (To those who do not know or remember, Heritage was a sprawling Christian theme park & resort founded by televangelists Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker back in 1978. It was 2nd only to DisneyWorld as a vacation destination in the US. By the late 1980s, many problems befell the park and it's founders. Heritage USA was finally forced to close in 1989.)
Out of curiosity, I decided to see what it looked like. There was no one at the main gate and I freely traveled inside. I shot the few minutes of videotape that you see here. There were only a few workers around and no one stopped or questioned me. I felt odd being there, so after I shot this tape, I left.
To those who do remember Heritage USA in Ft. Mill, SC, it was once a bustling retreat for many and also housed a large television & early cable TV facility broadcasting Christian programming 20 years ago. I am making no judgements in presenting this other than a look back at a well-known vacation destination - after the fall. Originally shot on SuperVHS.
