This is a tayra (Eira barbara inserta), a member of the weasel family. In Costa Rica, it is called a tolomuco. This beautiful animal is omnivorous and will eat almost anything it can. I think this one was hunting squirrels, birds or perhaps their nests. These creatures will even eat fruits and honey! We have seen these a few times but they are really difficult to get on film as they are always on the move and usually in heavy forest. They have amazing claws they use to dig, climb trees and grab prey. These animals have a sweet disposition and can be kept as pets (with the proper license and permissions).
