Let’s delve into the fascinating world of Travancore stamps as showcased by Mr. Manjunath Sadanand. His exhibit sheds light on the rich philatelic heritage of Travancore, a historic feudatory state of India situated at the southwestern tip of the subcontinent.

Travancore Stamps Overview:

The stamp journey began in 1888, during the reign of Rama Varma VI, who ruled from 1885 to 1924.
The inaugural issue featured three stamps, gummed on laid paper, typographed, and perforated 12.
These stamps bore the image of a conch shell and were inscribed with TRAVANCORE ANCHEL.
Notably, some of these stamps displayed a sheet watermark, while others remained unmarked.
In subsequent years, various designs featuring conchs continued to grace Travancore stamps.
Watermarks evolved, from the Stylized Conch to modified versions with detached side ornaments.
New colors and values were introduced, each contributing to the rich tapestry of Travancore’s philatelic history.
The stamp saga culminated in the Maharajah’s 27th birthday series, which included ten pictorial or portrait definitive designs.

Significant Moments:
1937: The issuance of Temple Entry Proclamation stamps, was a pivotal event in Travancore’s history.
1949: Travancore merged with Cochin state, marking the end of an era.

Mr. Manjunath Sadanand’s exhibit undoubtedly unveils the allure and significance of Travancore stamps, connecting collectors and enthusiasts to a bygone era. 📮🌟
