The Mona Lisa has gone down in history as one of the most famous and enchanting works of art ever made. Leonardo da Vinci worked on his masterpiece for 16 years, but his desire for perfection meant it remained in his studio even on his deathbed. Though he perhaps still regarded the Mona Lisa as incomplete, the incorporation of science, mechanics and anatomy in his work set a precedent for artists that would last for generations.
