🌳 Exploring Nature's Playground: Witness our kids' pure joy as they explore Garner State Park's "Texas Mountains," rivers, and Hill Country scenery. From playing in the Frio River to hiking Old Baldy, there's adventure for all. The Blinn River Trail offers a scenic, casual hike.
🛍️ Camping Amenities: Garner's resort-style amenities include a Walmart-like country store, Garner Grill, Ice Cream shop, Candy Store, and more. Enjoy souvenirs from various gift shops and clean bathhouses. Note that lines might be long on busy days.
🚎 Camping Accommodations: Our Shady Meadows site 115 backed up to a scenic mountain. Most RV sites are 15/30amp electric and water only. Shady Meadows sites 105-120 back up to the mountain. For closer river access, consider Oakmont, Live Oak, or Rio Frio camping areas.
🛶 Riverside Bonding: Family time on the Frio River is unparalleled. Shallow areas for safe exploration, cliff jumping, rope swinging, and tubing. Arrive early to secure a spot. Bring tubes, chairs, coolers, lunch, toys, tables, and shade. The lower Frio near Oakmont campsite is recommended.
💃 Endless Activities: Besides the Frio and hiking trails, Garner offers more. The summer highlight is "The Dance," a Texas Country dance under the stars. There's also putt-putt golf, "Cowboy Theater" with live music, and changing weekly events. Get the activity schedule upon arrival.
6 Tips for a Seamless Family Trip to Garner State Park:
1. Reserve in Advance: Secure campground reservations early to avoid stress. Garner is a sought-after destination and fills up quickly.
2. Play In the Frio, Get There Early: Our second tip also involves being prompt. The Frio was our favorite part, as mentioned many times before. The best part was setting up our day-camp in the shallows of the river so you can have your chair and feet in the water at all times! To do this, you must get out early, especially on weekends. Make sure you reserve a spot with a tent or chairs before 10 AM on the weekends, or even sooner.
3. Hike Old Baldy: The hike is mild with stunning views. It takes about an hour round trip. If it's too much, try milder trails like the Blinn River Trail.
4. Don’t Stress Essentials: Garner is remote, but the country store has what you need. Alcohol isn't sold in the park but is available at a nearby gas station.
5. No Cell Service: Expect zero service. Plan ahead by downloading music and essentials.
6. Do the Dance: Join the Texas Country dance even if it's hot. Everyone's having fun. Learn to two-step or dance your way.
